Panic Switch

June 8, 2010

Anyone else starting to get an unsettling feeling? Like, the Reds are starting to fade — never to return?

Brandon Phillips and Scott Rolen did what they could — getting five of the seven hits the Reds were able to get off of Matt Cain — but Nick Masset did what he does best and made sure the game was effectively out of reach.

To make matters worse, David Weathers is making it known (and anyone and everyone who will listen) that he wants to return to the Reds. Yes, it’s gotten so bad that we actually can’t dismiss rumors like David Weathers rejoining the Reds.

Fortunately, we have a GM who knows better…

(Walt Jocketty on Weathers rejoining the Reds):

“It’s not something that’s crossed our minds.”

I’ve always liked Walt Jocketty.

Don’t panic yet, remember when the starters were having problems(except Leake) they turned it around, the bull-pen has been somewhat over worked. Someone mentioned putting Bailey in the pen,at first I didn’t think it was a good idea; but after his performance tonite he could be good for the pen, as a reliver he would only need 2 pitches he would need command of. Plus Bray has pitched twice and no injuries and 5 K’s against 10 hitters only 1 hit so far.
I wouldn’t mind Stormy coming back…. as a coach or consultant he was a well-liked and respected guy in the pen.

I’m all for putting Bailey in the bullpen. Even if it’s just temporary, someone needs to step up to give the bullpen a break.

I don’t think Masset or Cordero are bad, I just think they need someone else to take the pressure off of them.
