Well, Dunn did do the little things last night, grounding out to second to drive in the 3rd and, ultimately, winning run. He must have known that he was going to have to start picking up for an injured Keppinger. Of course, we'd all rather he was doing the big things like picking up for a sucky Griffey (or vice versa).

It's true that Corey Patterson has become the scapegoat for all things wrong with the Reds these days, but the bottom line is that Corey Patterson is single-handedly blocking Jay Bruce's path to the majors. That doesn't sit well with a lot of Reds fans (and I'm one of them).

Corey Patterson is not the future of this ball club, and since it's clear the Reds are going nowhere this year, why not take that opportunity to bring up the young kids?

My other issue with Patterson is that he's one of Dusty's "horses," and seeing Dusty's "horses" in a Reds uniform is exactly what I didn't want when Dusty signed on as manager.

If the Reds didn't have any other options in the outfield, then I'd do the same thing with Corey Patterson that I did with Royce Clayton - completely ignore him.

Hey Spuds,

I like your blog. You remember when the Reds were a decent team. And you're not afraid to speak your mind. Bravo for you.

Cory Patterson is not a leadoff hitter but he can play the outfield, steal a base, and do some little things. He's not the reason the Reds are lousy this year. So why don't you lay off him?

If you want to grouse a bit, how about that leftfielder? He is definitely in need of a change. Trade him to the American League for a younger, more athletic outfielder, let Griffey go for a song to Seattle, and bring up your Minor League Player of the Year. Viola! Instantly a better team. And you could live with Patterson and Freel and whomever in center field.

This isn't rocket science as about every letter suggests the same thing. But until the trigger is pulled, the Reds head for the bottom half of the division. For another year.

Lettuce Bob must be having a fit right about now.

Hey I love your blog. Totally agree with patterson. At least they weren't meaningless and actually helped win the game.

What you are missing is that the fans deserve better. Unfortunately for Griffey his glory days are behind him. I wish him the best of luck where ever he ends up as long as he take Adam Dunn with him.

Beautiful.

The closer one gets to mainstream media, the greater the likelihood that the comments section on the article or blogpost devolves into back-and-forths like the one you've described. To be avoided at all costs.

Redz suck!!! Cubbiez Rule!!! just kidding. Great article. I used to read comments frequently but I just can't anymore. I used to consider myself a relatively intelligent person but I've lost at least 10 I.Q. points in the last couple of years, mostly from comments on Fay's blog. It really is astounding how truly and consistently obnoxious cubs fans are. I mean, I live in NYC, and Yankees fans are pretty much as bad as advertised, but at least their team has done something to warrant their ridiculousness. Being a cubs fan is probably like being the short skinny kid in school who is always getting beat up, but nobody feels bad for him 'cause he's alway such an ass to everyone.

One of the reasons why I was bummed when Josh Hamilton got traded was that I never got my hands on one of his "The Natural" shirts.
