Life In Slow Motion

March 8, 2010

To be honest with you, I really couldn’t care less about these Spring Training games (hence the lack of updates recently). I promise, once something of interest happens I’ll be the fourth or fifth site to let you know about it.

There are really only two things I hope to see upon the completion of each Spring Training game:

  1. No significant injuries
  2. No reports of {INSERT PITCHER’S NAME HERE} alarming loss of velocity

I like what I’m hearing about the young guys in camp – specifically, Chris Heisey and Matt Maloney – but beyond that, there really isn’t much to get excited about (other than the fact that Opening Day is right around the corner).

A quiet camp is a good camp, I suppose.

2009 was the first year in recent memory that I didn’t see the Reds play (in-person) at least once. I rarely make it to games in Cincinnati, but I usually try to catch a game at Wrigley Field or Miller Park when the Reds are in town, but last year I wasn’t able to make it work.

However, I did find the time to drive to Indianapolis to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with my best friend, so figure that one out.

Last weekend I bought two tickets to my first non-Opening Day game at Great American Ball Park. Naturally, it’s for the July 17 game, which just happens to be Chris Sabo’s Reds Hall of Fame induction ceremony. I’m already looking forward to it.

Miss Sabo’s Goggles and I are planning a trip to Cleveland (ugh…) in May to see our beloved Reds play what’s left of the Cleveland Indians. I’m also using it as an excuse to make my first trip to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (anyone know if the Winger exhibit is worth checking out?). Other than the fact that I have to spend the night in Cleveland, I’m looking forward to that, too.

Homer Bailey and Bronson Arroyo take the mound for today’s games, with Aroldis Chapman scheduled to pitch in relief.

I’ve been hard on Bailey in the past, but I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt this season. Until he gives me a reason to not give him the benefit of the doubt.
