A Change Would Do You Good

November 11, 2009

If you’re one of the handful of readers who has read Chris Sabo’s Goggles since its humble beginnings (way back in 2008!), you’ll remember that the site underwent quite an overhaul before the 2009 season.

The rambling, angst-ridden content remained the same, but the layout for the site was completely different (for better or for worse).

Since I have the attention span of a three-year-old, I’m going to change the site again for the 2010 season.  Hopefully to something I won’t be sick of by the All-Star Break.

So, instead of just randomly making changes with total disregard of the outcome, I’m going to turn to you — my trusty readers – to help me with the changes.

My biggest issue with the current layout is that the headline and main-post text are too small.  I’m a firm believer that sheer brilliance — such as my writing – needs to be seen in something larger than eight-point font.  The new template/layout will (hopefully) remedy that problem.

What does this mean for you?  Well, you won’t have to strain your eyes as much to see through all of the holes in my coverage of the Cincinnati Reds.  Lucky you!

Another thing I would really like to incorporate into Chris Sabo’s Goggles 2010  is a “share on Facebook/Twitter/etc.” button attatched to each post.  I can’t be bothered with that Twitter nonsense, but I do see the value in allowing readers the convenience of posting my hilarious posts to their Facebook/Twitter pages.

I haven’t figured that one out yet, so any advice would be welcome.

I had a friend help me with some t-shirt designs over the summer, but I’d like to come up with a few more designs before I attempt to set-up an online shop.  So, you have that to look forward to, I guess.

What about the Chris Sabo’s Goggles Facebook page?  Am I utilizing that as much as I could be?  Anything you like to see on the Facebook page that isn’t already there (other than porn)?

Okay, enough of my yappin’ — it’s your turn…

  • What would you like to see on Chris Sabo’s Goggles in 2010 (and beyond)?
  • What do you like/don’t like about the site (content-wise & visually)?
  • What features/options would you like to have?

Keep in mind that I’m about as web-savy as Willy Taveras and Corey Patterson were at being leadoff hitters.  Which is to say, I rarely know what I”m doing, but every once and a while I’ll push the right button and something I intended to happen will happen.

I’d prefer that you leave your suggestions/recommendations/death-threats in the comments section — either here or on the Facebook page – so other people can chime in, but if you’re too embarrassed by your request, you can send me an e-mail (which I’ll then post on the site for everyone to see).

Never apologize to Corey Patterson. He should be the one apologizing. He should say he is sorry to Dusty Baker for not only sucking, but dating Dusty’s daughter at the same time, making it difficult for Dusty to bench him.

I’ve been reading for the better part of a year and I have no complaints. As long as the satirical wit and general bashing of everything Cubs related continues, I’m happy. I’m looking forward to the T-shirts.

I agree with the small type. You should go with a Huff post style Big Pictute/healine

Shirts are a great idea, may I recommend a 50/50 cotton/poly blend to vintage Saboesk feel.

As an eye doctor AND a Reds fan, I would advise a slightly larger font size to help out your visually impaired (or 40+ year-old) readers. Not everyone can put a no-line bifocal in a pair of Rec-Specs. Great site as always.
