Well, I’ve noticed one glaring omission.
Also odd that Larkin took a backseat to Davis. ED was a great player for us, but Larkin meant more over the years. Then again, isn’t art supposed to inspire discussion and interpretation?
Don’t get me wrong, I think the painting is great, but I agree with Jim P. about the selection (and placement) of the players.
Yes, Pete Rose isn’t on there, but I think that has something to do with him being banned from baseball (hence all of the “hidden” tributes to Rose at GABP).
Having Eric Davis as the most prominent figure in the painting is a little odd, but the guy did rupture an internal organ to help us win a World Series, so I’ll let it slide.
Sean Casey meant a lot to this team, too, but I get the feeling that only players who contributed to the “success” (read: winning) of the Reds were included.
That’s probably why Corey Patterson isn’t on there.
Good article on the unveiling of this painting over at http://www.urbancincy.com/. The article is dated Friday 11/20. Good Cincy website in general, too.
I like how they got the 1869 Red Stocking uniform wrong. But hey, at least George Wright is in the painting.
