When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around

Please let it be true.  Please let it be true.  Please let it be true.  Please let it be true.  Please let it be true.

Dusty Baker may not be as safe in Cincinnati as the Reds’ strong finish would suggest. Owner Bob Castellini reportedly has his eye on the Cardinals tandem of manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan.

Please let it be true. Please let it be true. Please let it be true. Please let it be true. Please let it be true.

Like many Reds fans, I’ve been dreaming about this possibility for a while.  I don’t want to hear anything about strong finishes, or improved records, or letting a guy finish out the last year of his contract.  The stars are aligned for the Reds to get a PROVEN and RESPECTED manager and a SOLID pitching coach.  Opportunities like this don’t come along very often.

Screw loyalty, just make it happen.

have to agree… LaRussa finds a way to compete every year no matter how many holes are in the roster. We can’t beat him so lets hire him.

could this be true? I mean would The Genious come here knowing the only coach that would be his is Duncan? or would the other coaches i.e. Hatcher et al, be let go as well even though they were just told they would be staying. Somehow this just doesn’t make sense to me.
Besides where would all the money come from to pay these two managers, and the god of pitching coaches? they keep telling us they have no money for free agents; how will they explain the hireing of LaRussa, and Duncan plus pay the last year and buyout of Dusty as well. That’s a good outfielder, shortstop and catcher if you ask me.

Can you think of a better way for the front office to send the message:

    We’re serious about the future!

Sure, it would mean a complete implosion of the current coaching staff, but it’s not “show-friends” it’s “show-business.”

Nice idea, won’t happen. It’s the smart thing to do but when was the last time Reds ownership did the “right” thing?

Salary implications aside, this won’t happen because the Reds are too nice, and this move would require them to do something not so nice (firing Baker after an “improved” season).

I think our only hope is if La Russa decides to take a year off, allowing the Reds a full season to negotiate with La Russa while Baker makes excuses to bat Willy Patterson leadoff.

while he would be a improvement over dusty(wouldn’t anybody?)do we want to the st.louis reds or the cincy reds.the guy thinks he invented baseball and has won 2 world series in how many years and with the talent he had in oakland?the reason the cards win all the time is the division they are in.you see what happens to them in playoffs when they face real competition and that is being swept!I am willing to wait as long as they stick with the young nucleaus they have.that means votto, phillips, bruce and stubbs.combine that with the improvement of bailey and hopefuly queto and the future does not look that bad.if they must bring somebody from the cardinals sign holliday to play left and that will show you are ready to win now.

Something else the reds had in common with the cards this year was they beat the teams they should have beaten,i.e. pirates, astros, etc.in august and sept. when the reds kept putting forth an effort while the other teams “mailed it in” for the year, something the reds haven’t done in the past.
Great idea about signing Holliday,if only it could happen.

it could happen if the fans would fill the stadium like they do in st. louis, and i don’t see that happening
