Man of the Hour

October 6, 2009

Two days into the Reds’ off-season and we’re already blessed with some fantastic news.

Guess who just got elected to the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame…

Congratulations, Spuds.  You certainly earned it.

If there’s an induction ceremony, Chris Sabo’s Goggles will do what he can to be there.

(Oh, yeah… Pedro Borbon and Tony Mullane got in, too.)

Knew you’d have something cool up to note this. The Reds have held “Reds Hall of Fame Induction” nights in pregame ceremonies before a game sometime during the season the last few years. Assuming they do that again this year, I definitely plan to be there for that. It’ll be great to cheer for him in a Reds stadium one more time. He had an appearance on WLW tonight that was pretty cool. I believe he said something about coaching girl’s junior high tennis somewhere in the Cincy area, which was surprising but cool.

Congratulations and I’m sure you appreciate the honor. Thanks for remaining in the city.

I thought Sabo was coaching or managing somewhere in the Reds farm system, possibly the Dayton Dragons? Did he get released? If so, why???

I think Sabo was in the Reds farm system at one point. Not sure why he left/isn’t with them anymore.

I live in Dayton. He was a hitting coach for the Dragons for about two years a few years ago. Not sure why he left though.

Sabo was one of my favorites growing up. He let me interview him when I was in 6th grade for a school project, so that forever cemented his coolness in my eyes. I will definitely be making several trips to the museum next year.
