Double Vision
Drew Stubbs had a nice coming out party today.
Stubbs went 2-4 with a homer in the first game, but what your friends won’t tell you (because they weren’t there — only 2,000 people were at the game) is that Stubbs also had a nice at-bat in the bottom of the 9th, leading to a walk-off wild pitch win. Something you don’t see every day.
Speaking of double-headers: am I the only one who misses the days when they were more common?
I was hoping we wouldn’t see Johnny Cueto again this season (seriously, what’s the point?), but nobody listens to me, so he’s back pitching in meaningless games putting his arm at risk. Whatever.
I’ll give the Reds credit for only pitching him 5.0 innings (3 hits, 1 ER) in the second game, but I still wish they’d just shut him down for the season.
Drew Stubbs finished off the day by going to 2-5 in the second game and hitting his second homer of the day. Another reason I’m in favor of double-headers.

Great quote from Pirates Game 1 starter Daniel McCutcheon (who was making his major league debut): “I was a little antsy, trying to block that crowd out.”
I still remember the days of going to a SCHEDULED double header with my folks back in the ’80s.
