Bright End of Nowhere

July 6, 2009

I haven’t had a chance to check the final score of tonight’s game. Did I miss anything?

After the not-so-successful “big” series against the Cardinals I bet the Reds were anxious to take the field and start the road trip off on a positive note.

The first game was the most intriguing of the series with Cole Hamels and Johnny Cueto taking the mound.  Lots of strikeouts, not too many hits — a low-scoring game, I’m sure.  I love a good ol’ fashioned pitcher’s duel.

Let me stroll on over to ESPN.com and see how the Reds did…

According to Marty & Jeff on WLW, this was the largest margin of defeat in the ENTIRE history of the Reds orginization.

Goggles, may I suggest you go offline again for a while :)

Crikey, we had one of our infielders pitch to close out the game.

    Sweet!

Largest margin of defeat ever for the Reds? Big deal! It’s not like the Reds have been around a long time.

Just how bad was it? I was giving my wife verbal updates of the game and when I told her that Paul Janish was pitching, her response was, “Again?!”

    Exactly.

After the first 2 runs in the first inning, I looked around at my family and said, “Well this one’s over they’ll never score more than 2 runs on Hamels.” I hate being right all the time.

This is what happens when you tell this group of guys “this series is important.” I knew it was going to be bad when I saw the line-up and everybody’s favorite lead-off hitter was back in the saddle, I just didn’t think it was going to be THAT bad.
