Sad Songs (Say So Much)

June 8, 2009

I’ve seen some piss-poor hitting performances from the Reds this season, but none as futile as the one I witnessed yesterday.  How many times did the Reds have the opportunity to put the Cubbies away in Sunday’s game?

That was a rhetorical question, but I’ll go ahead and answer it:  A LOT!

Bases loaded with one out and you don’t score?  Not to mention the numerous other opportunities the Reds had with runners in scoring position and came up empty.

Why, of all games I choose to watch on television this season, did it have to be that one?  If there was ever a game that highlighted the Reds’ stengths (pitching — especially the bullpen), and showcased their weaknesses (hitting), it was yesterday’s game.

Thank God I don’t have to follow a game today.  Next up, the pathetic Washington Nationals.   I’m going to warn you — if the Reds don’t win this series, I’m going to get angry.  And you won’t like Chris Sabo’s Goggles when he’s angry.

Let alone watching the game on TV yesterday, I was AT the game. The last bases loaded with one out in the 13th inning, I said if they dont score here they dont deserve to win. What didnt help was that Jerry Hairston popped in the infield about 4 times…ugh. I think he owes Dusty about 80 push ups.

You have my sympathies, Y2JK. No way I would’ve stayed to the end of that game.

Just as Y2JK, I too was at the game. Pitiful yes, and it can be summed up with these words: (About the 12th inning or so when the Cubs’ David Patton (6-something ERA) was pitching a Cubs fan yelled) “If the Reds can’t hit this guy, they must really suck!” That pretty much says it all about the Reds hitting yesterday, and most days.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but the Cubs fan was right. Patton is terrible, and the only reason why the guy is still on the Cubs’ roster is because he’s out of options.

When Patton came in, I really expected the Reds to get the win, but they couldn’t even do that.

There’s no other way to put it — the Reds are a sad offensive ball club (emphasis on “offensive”).
