The Silence Between Us

April 22, 2009

It’s starting to become clear to me why people only talk about Micah Owings‘ hitting.

The guy didn’t pitch horribly, but he’s done nothing in his two starts (9.2 innings, 10 hits, 9 runs) to convince me that he deserves the spot as the fifth starter.  Unfortunately, the Reds don’t have a whole lot of replacement options.

But should we really be complaining about the pitching if the Reds continue to look like Stevie Wonder at the plate?

Alex Gonzalez is approaching He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named territory.  He’s no longer the defensive whiz that Captain Toothpick loves so much and his bat is non-existent, so I’m struggling to see what purpose he serves for this team.

At least Jay Bruce got a couple of hits (40% of the Reds’ offense last night, to be exact).

It’s April 22nd and this team is already driving me nuts.
