Holding Out For a Hero

Jayson Stark has an interesting article up at ESPN.com about that clown Alex Rodriguez.
In it he talks about how some of Major League Baseball’s greatest achievers/cheaters may never make it to the Hall of Fame.
Pete Rose is on that list.
I understand why Rose is in that list, but he is out of baseball for far different reasons. What he did was absolutely wrong, but he’s not a cheater. I think it’s a far bigger crime that Rose isn’t in the HOF than any of those other clowns.
And I’m sure I’m not the only one who notices how many of these cheaters are current/former Yankees.
Stupid Yankees…
I am by no means an A-Rod fan, but I respected his talents and looked forward to the day he wiped Barry Bonds record off the books. Now I can’t even look forward to that. Unless Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the other 103 players who tested positive in 2003 (and I really hope he isn’t), then I think the top 12 HR leaders should be seriously revised:
- Barry Bonds
- Hank Aaron
- Babe Ruth
- Willie Mays
- Ken Griffey Jr.
- Sammy Sosa
- Frank Robinson
- Mark McGwire
- Harmon Killebrew
- Rafael Palmeiro
- Reggie Jackson
- Alex Rodriguez
That makes Junior the greatest homerun hitter of our era. Period.
But if Junior is named as one of the other 103 players who tested positive for steroids, I won’t pull any punches and I won’t make any excuses for the guy. He’ll be crossed off the list just like the others.
I don’t think I’ll have to do that, though.

Perfectly put.
You’re preaching to the choir my friend on the Rose situation… no doubt he should be in Cooperstown.
Another great post. If Jr. were on ‘roids, one would think he wouldn’t have been on the DL so much.
I hope you don’t mind if I put your link on my redscards.blogspot and weeklyboxbreak.blogspot.com links list.
Love the site!
Joe
I don’t mind at all, Joe. Thanks for adding me.
