The Younger Griffey is Better Than OK

Before Monday’s game, Ken Griffey Jr. asked why he wasn’t in the starting lineup. He was told:

“You can’t hit lefties, and you’re old!”

This sounds like the nonsense that Dusty Baker normally spouts off, but ESPN is attributing the quote to Baker’s 9-year-old son, Darren. The kid looks like he’s a real chip off the old block.

That’s right, I’m picking on a 9-year-old kid.

Griffey came in as a defensive replacement in the 9th, and promptly used his offensive skills to hit a game-winning, two-run walk-off homer.  The Reds are now in a virtual tie with the Pittsburgh Pirates for fifth place in the NL Central.

God, I love virtual ties.

If the Reds keep playing like this, there’s a chance I’ll still virtually care in August.
