Now Or Never

Back on June 20th I made the follow statement:
“The way this team has been playing recently, I see no reason why the Reds can’t win 7 or 8 of the next 9 games.”
I was kidding.
It turns out that the Reds would go 5-4 on the road trip, which isn’t great, but it is acceptable. Especially against the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Indians, et al.
I’m not certain if Mötley Crüe were the first ones to use the phrase, “Home sweet home,” but if they were, those boys are brilliant. The Reds are home to play three against the Pirates and four against the Nationals. Sounds like shooting fish in a barrel, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, this is the Cincinnati Reds we’re talking about here, so nothing comes easily.
First up is the mighty Pittsburgh Pirates. I say “mighty” because they have a better record than the Reds. Granted, the Reds have played two more games than the Pirates, but minutia like that doesn’t matter when you’re talking about the Pirates having a better record than the Reds.
The fact remains: the Pirates have a better record than the Reds.
Do I need to say that one more time? Because I will.
