Pirates of the Monongahela: At Weather’s End
April 11, 2008
I come home from seeing Jerry Seinfeld in concert (which was very funny) only to see that the Reds got shut out by the Pirates (which was not very funny).
The Pittsburgh Pirates.
What else am I supposed to say?
I blame this loss on Mother Nature. Thanks to your stupid rain shower, Mother Nature, Edinson Volquez’s five innings of three-hit ball were cut short. After a 62-minute rain delay, in comes Jared Burton, he gives up a homer to Jason Bay, game over.
If I’m not mistaken, the Reds left 12 runners stranded on base. Maybe it was more. I lost count.

I was at the game and what you described is what happened. Volquez pitched a great game. The Reds left the bases loaded in the first. The hellacious storm came through then Jared Burton left a 3-2 pitch over the middle of the plate and Jason Gay knocked it out of the park. Game over. Though I thought Griffey had a homer in his last at bat. I wore my Pete Rose jersey and of course I heard heckling Pirates fans calling him a cheater but apparently they forgot that someone named Barry Bonds played for them.
