Play Ball!

Mr. Red

Welcome to Chris Sabo’s Goggles. It doesn’t get any more unofficial than this.

Chris Sabo’s Goggles is a site where I’ll talk about the Cincinnati Reds all season without all of that boring stuff like stats and up-to-the minute standings.  There are already plenty of good Reds fan-sites that do that (see the blogroll on the left), so I’ll let them continue to do what they do best, and I’ll do what I do best — babble incessantly.

Chris Sabo’s Goggles is meant for all Reds fans, but if I can make Reds talk interesting enough that even your girlfriend will want to read it, then my work here is done.

Throughout the season I’ll be connecting with other NL Central and National League blog-owners for some friendly smack-talk.  This will especially be true when the Reds play the Chicago Cubs, because I hate the Cubbies.

It’s probably worth mentioning that I’m a Cincinnati Reds fan that lives three miles from Wrigley Field.  Maybe I should’ve brought that up earlier.  In fact, I live so close to Wrigley Field that when the warm summer breeze is blowing north, I can actually smell the desperation.  But enough about that – there will be plenty of time this season to talk about their silly little baseball team.

I lived in Cincinnati from 4th grade until I graduated from high school, then I went to college in Indiana and moved to Chicago in August of 2000.  I’ve been in the Windy City ever since, but I never stopped rooting for the Cincinnati Reds (regardless of how painful it’s been).  I like to drive up to Milwaukee when the Reds are in town, and I’ll occasionally go to Wrigley to see the Reds play the Cubbies, but I try to stay away from that ivy-covered urinal trough Cubs fans call the Friendly Confines.

For the record: I have no problem with the Chicago White Sox.

Again, welcome to Chris Sabo’s Goggles (or CSG… that’s what all the cool kids are calling it) – sit down, relax and enjoy the show.

More later…

So, when did the Ball-headed Reds guy grow a mustache?

I mean, I know I’m behind the times, but when did it happen?

Actually I believe the mustachioed mascot is actually the original one which has been brought back. Note the vintage painters cap he wears. I’m not sure when or why they replaced him the the clean cut running man.
